Happy Thursday! It’s time for my weekly check-in to see what’s going on in room 27. As for me, my week has been mostly like this
In the meantime, though, here are your Blogging Challenges for Week One:
INDIVIDUAL STUDENT BLOGGERS
When last I checked the registered students list, these were the people from our class that I saw there: Arnold, Kobe, Michael, William, Janis, Daphnie, Esmeralda, and Tyler. You should follow the directions on the challenge page where it says “Students:“.
If you thought you had signed up to be an individual student blogger and your name isn’t above, check the registered students list, and if your name is not there, register again here. Then go ahead and do the student suggestions on your own blog. (They give you lots of choices–you don’t have to do them all!)
CLASS BLOGGERS
Everyone else will be responding in a comment to this post here on our class blog. The topic this week is “Who Are We?” Follow the steps below:
1. Why should other students / classes visit our blog? What will they learn from reading our posts? Are there any skills our class has that we could pass on to other classes and students? Perhaps highlight and link to some great posts our class has already written that newer blogging classes would find useful or interesting.
2. What should our Class “About” page have on it? Check out these below. Each page is so different. What do you think should be included in a class ‘About’ page?
- Mrs Partlow in Washington State, USA
- Mr Mac in South Australia
- Mr Toft in Ontario, Canada
- C-O Connections in Texas, USA
Check out at least ten other class blogs from the list. Write a comment sharing some similarities and differences you found while reading their ‘About’ pages. Remember to include links back to those class blogs (or at least copy / paste their http://).
3. Write a comment introducing the world to our classroom or school.
4. Visit our buddy classes!
Our buddy classes are:
Catherine Barnard from Canada
and
Erika Fosgreen from the U.S.
Go visit their blogs, introduce yourself in a comment and get a conversation started!
5. Visit other blogs from the class list. Visit a different class blog and check it out. What did you like about it? What caught your eye? Did you find an interesting post? Be sure to include a link (or the http://) of the blogs you mention.
I can’t wait to see all your comments on here! Is there anything else you’d like to tell me about your week?
But really, I can’t wait until I’m feeling like this again
so I can be back there with you guys.

HI, my name is Paloma and I’m in Mr. Miller’s class. Is the tiger in this picture your school mascot, or do you just like tigers? i hope you respond.
Hey miss.nichols hopefully your felling better and we all miss you. Anyway I went to a blog that’s great but didn’t put that detail or description on their pictures the blog is http://partlowpowerhouse.edublogs.org/about/ from They have a video but it takes a really long time to load. But I think its great. Feel better miss.Nichols
Dear Miss Nichols,
Hello! How are you feeling? I went to visit many class blogs, and I read many about us pages. I enjoyed visiting http://coconnections.wonecks.net/about/comment-page-2/#comment-2570 the most because every child got to write about themselves. On the blogs that I visited, I think that the about pages should have pictures about us on field trips, or just fun activities that we do. Videos are also nice to put on there, and information about us, and what we like to do for fun. Thanks
Hi Susana, I’m getting better. I really would like to have you guys write more about yourselves on our class blog. Maybe you can create a post along with Kylie and get everyone to comment on it? I like the idea of using each person’s avatar next to the details about that person.
In some classes I noticed that they put more things like tips for parents for things like swimming. In others I noticed more pictures and what the class disliked and liked like one class who the majority liked feta cheese put a lot different and there were pictures of their expressions like a sour face and a satisfied face I think for our harvest of the month we should take pictures of our expressions to if we like the fruit or vegetable or not.
That’s a great idea too, to give our “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” on the Harvest of the Month foods. I think most of you would give the satisfied faces instead of the sour faces!
Hi Miss Nicohls today I was looking at Mr.Partlow’s blog they had many pictures that drew my attention but they had no writing.I think something we should try is clicking pictures to go to a link. Some skills they should try from us is to put more writing in their posts.Over all I thought that http://partlowpowerhouse.edublogs.org needed more detail instead of pictures.
Melissa, I agree that blog posts that have a combination of pictures and words are the most informative and enjoyable to me. And I like it when a post has questions at the bottom that invite the reader to write in and add their comments about the topic. Good observation!
On our class about page I think we should put what there was on:http://coconnections.wonecks.net/about/. There little about page had the students name, what grade they are in and what they like. They also had things like their favorite snack and food. But I think we should do it a little different. I think we should put our name, our favorite show, snack, our favorite place to be and why, our favorite fruit, our lucky number, our favorite person in the world, and what we want to be when we grow up.
Kylie, I think this is a great idea. Where do you think we should put this, on our About page? I will give you admin access so you can go into that page and set it up for everyone. Thanks for putting the link to the C-O Connections class blog. What a great resource! Also, by clicking on the 100 Best Blogs button, I found out our class is on the 100 Best list too! Most excellent!!!
Hey Ms. Nichols! I checked out other blogs. One I liked in particular was http://mrtoft2011.edublogs.org/welcome/. I really enjoyed the class picture. To me it was very creative. Also in http://partlowpowerhouse.edublogs.org/about/ they had a video of their class. That was another creative idea.
Thanks, Alejandro. I’ll add both of those to our Blogroll so we can visit them regularly and see what they are up to!
Dear Miss Nichols,
Hello! Today as I was looking through the blogs, one of them caught my eye. This blog kept many people up to date. It said what the class was recently doing and I also liked that it had a shelfari on their blog. I really like that they added this feature to their blog. The website to this blog is http://room10paremata10.blogspot.com/ Well, I hope you come back soon. Bye!
Hi, Nathalie. That definitely looks like a fun class. I’ll add them to our blogroll as well.
I liked Miss Barnard’s blog and I suggest that we talk about how it is here in California, so our visitors can kind of see how it would be to live in the United States. I also think that we should talk about our field trips and maybe take pictures and upload them to our blog. To check out this blog click this link:http://barnardoneillc.edublogs.org/
That’s a great suggestion, Kylie. I say you and some classmates create blog posts on here (class blog) and add pictures and details of what life is like in southern California. Field trips and school events like Jog-a-Thon and Career Day would also be great to write about after they happen. Maybe someone could take pictures of these things since I won’t be there to do it.
Hey,
Thanks for referring to our blog! I will make sure to go and check out your own blog Kylie!
My students all know that I am a big “video-slideshow” kind of gal and I’m glad you enjoyed them too!
I think taking pictures and showing your visitors a little bit about what living in California is like is a wonderful idea. To be honest, I’m a little envious of all of you and the warm weather you get! Quebec, Canada has 4 seasons that I just love, but boy do I sometimes wish our summers were longer!
Miss B
Dear Miss Nichols,
Hello! How are you! I found some very cool class blogs that I loved! The first one I saw was https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/nl/brilliantbloggers/. This one is creative, and it has vokis just like us, and they even wrote about their activities that they do in class. I loved it! An other class blog that I saw was http://room10paremata10.blogspot.com/. It had a shelfari that I really liked, and they seem to have lots of fun with it.
Hi Susi, I’m recovering. Thanks for asking. Hope everything is going well at school. I really like these two blogs you found, and will add them to our blogroll.
