How can I use available tools and techniques to revise my persuasive essay and strengthen my argument?
- Use revision checklist, notes in spiral, sample essay, learning progression chart, and 6th Grade Checklist
- Re-read entire essay once to get a sense of overall flow and organization. Do you need to move things around? Strengthen one or more parts of the essay?
- Re-read one paragraph at a time. Does each sentence have a purpose? Does each build on the last (in ACE structure)? Do you have a clear topic sentence followed by details and explanations?
- Re-read one word at a time. Is each word the best you could have chosen for that sentence? Does it sound grammatically correct? Did you spell every word correctly?
- Re-read the entire essay again, this time imagining you are the reader. Do many of the sentences paint a clear picture in your mind? Where would you argue back? Does the writer acknowledge your opposing thoughts and feelings? Does the writer convince you?
Once you are convinced you are finished with your final draft and have turned it in on Classroom:
