Friday 4/29/16 Language Arts

Per. 1 – Reading (8:15-9:05)

Take out:

  • AVT book

 

LT: I can use the academic words “determine” and “logical” appropriately in sentences.

  • AVT Quiz: determine, logical, p. 136-137

 

Per. 2 – Writing (9:08-9:58)

LT: I can compare and contrast the difference between reading a story or watching the story in a video format, including the various perceptions that come with reading or watching.

  • Turn your boxes-and-bullets outline into a comparison essay. (Find Argument Writing Checklist to help.)
  • Prompt: How do the decisions made by the author of the book (Christopher Paul Curtis) and the director of the film (Kenny Leon) affect the themes, main ideas, and overall impact on the reader?
  • Use evidence from both the book and the film.
  • Tip: Rework your introduction and conclusion after writing your body paragraphs.

Homework: 

  1. Read 30 minutes (30+ pages) and log in agenda: Title, pages read, 2-sentence summary, parent signature. (2 days)
