Tuesday 5/3/16 Language Arts

Per. 1 – Reading (10:16-11:15)

Take out:

  • AVT book
  • computer and headphones

 

LT: I can use the academic word “generalize” appropriately in sentences.

  • AVT Share: generalize, p. 128-129

 

LT: I can use online reading assessments to find out my strengths and needs as a reader.

 

Per. 2 – Writing (12:03-12:59)

LT: I can compare and contrast the difference between reading a story or watching the story in a video format, including the various perceptions that come with reading or watching.

  • Prompt: How do the decisions made by the author of the book (Christopher Paul Curtis) and the director of the film (Kenny Leon) affect the themes, main ideas, and overall impact on the reader?
  • Finish comparison essay and grade yourself on the Argument Writing Checklist.
  • Tip: Rework your introduction and conclusion after writing your body paragraphs.

Homework: 

  1. Read 30 minutes (30+ pages) and log in agenda: Title, pages read, 2-sentence summary, parent signature.
  2. Finish Watsons Comparison Essay, revise, edit, and proofread.
