Tuesday 9/27/16 – Language Arts

Good Morning, Class!

Per. 1 (8:15-9:05)

Please take out:

  • Computer / Close Reader
  • Any late work (if your name is on board)

Warm-Up:

Learning Target copy Learning Target: Students will be able to determine the central ideas of an informational text by examining the textual evidence (details, facts, statistics, quotations, examples, and anecdotes).

  • Use the article, “Face Your Fears and Scare the Phobia Out of Your Brain” on p. 13-16 in your Close Reader to complete the Graphic Organizer about the main/central idea.
  • Class discussion

Per. 2 (9:08-9:58)

  • Write an 8-sentence ACE paragraph to answer the Short Response question on p. 16. You can brainstorm in your book, but do your final draft on the computer in Google Classroom.

Remember to use the format:

  • A – State the topic of your paragraph using words from the question. Be sure to include the title of the article and author’s name.
  • C1 – Cite your first piece of evidence from the article.
  • E1 – Explain how this evidence supports your Answer.
  • C2 – Cite your second piece of evidence from the article.
  • E2 – Explain how this evidence supports your Answer.
  • C3 – Cite your third piece of evidence from the article.
  • E3 – Explain how this evidence supports your Answer.
  • A – Restate your topic/answer to the question in a new way.

 

Homework

  1. Read 20 pages (or more) in a chapter book of your choice and log:
    1. Title
    2. Pg. ___ to ___
    3. Two sentences about your reading
    4. Parent signature
  2. Finish “Face Your Fears and Scare…” Short Response on paper or in Google Docs to submit on Classroom.

Per. 3 (10:02-10:42)

Please take out:

  • Language Arts spiral notebook

Predicting Lesson 1: The Composer is Dead

(Remember, you can leave your language arts spiral in your bin.)
