  • Do Paired-Texts Vocabulary Practice (p. 3 of 3)

Learning Target: Students will be able to understand and explain America’s changing ideas about sweets and sugar by synthesizing information from two articles and an infographic.

How Candy Conquered America: The sweet and disturbing story of sugar

First Read:

  • Write any other new words on the Vocabulary Acquisition sheet as we read the article
  • Stop after each section to jot down the main ideas

 

Per. 2 (9:05-9:58)

Close Read:

  • ACE the Close-Reading Questions (1-4) on the first page only.
  • What does a complete and thorough answer look like? (Discuss and view samples.)

Homework:

  1. Read 25+ pages in a chapter book of your choice and log:
    1. Title
    2. Pg. ___ to ___
    3. Two sentences about your reading
    4. Parent signature
