Friday 1/12/18 – Language Arts

Good Morning, Class!

Please take out:

  • Chromebook
  • independent reading book

 

Per. 1 (8:15-9:09)

Learning Target: Students will be able to sustain attention and focus on independent reading the entire time.

Chart:

  • Find examples from Sojourner Truth, The Libyan Sibyl of word choice particular to HBS and ST
  • Find examples that demonstrate formal or informal tone
  • Find examples that show speech patterns

Partner Writing:

  • You and your partner will work together to ACE each question, using evidence from your chart or the text.

Partner Poster:

  • One partner creates a Google Drawing and shares with the other.
  • Title it: HBS & ST Comparison + your names. 
  • The person who created it should this Drawing to the assignment on Classroom.
  • You might use a Venn Diagram or 3-Column Chart to organize your ideas and evidence (or go free form)
  • Include an image of each woman along with her name
  • Use personality inferences from your ACE questions and evidence from the text

Per. 2 (9:12-10:00)

Continue working on posters until finished. Turn in assignment on Classroom.

Then go into silent reading if there is time.

Independent reading in a book of your choice

Homework:

  1. Read 25+ pages and log on Biblionasium:
    1. Book title
    2. Page #s you read (p. ____ to p. ____)
    3. Big Thing that Happened (1-2 sentences: Who? What? When? Where?) + 1 question, prediction, inference, connection, visualization, or new word and how you guessed its meaning
  2. Finish all work on Classroom and StudySync.

Learning Target: Students will be able to create a commercial applying their understanding of the strategies for persuasive appeals: pathos, logos, and ethos.
