Per. 2 (8:15-9:29)

Finish Gandhi/MLK Graphic Organizer and turn in on Classroom.

Write comparison paragraph on StudySync and submit.

  • Intro: Read paragraph, view video, preview vocabulary
  • Read: As you read the poem, annotate any questions that come to mind
  • Think: ACE Think questions

Learning Target: Students will be use concrete strategies for identifying the author’s tone in a poem and other texts.

Open Tone notetaking doc on Classroom and assignment on StudySync

  • Define: View video and review vocab in chart
    • Answer questions on doc
  • Model: Study the Identification and Application section
    • Teacher Model: “I Hear America Singing”
    • Partner Practice: “I, Too”
  • Your Turn: Independent practice
  • Apply: Go back to the I, Too, Sing America assignment and use your new knowledge of tone to complete the Write prompt

 

Homework:

  1. Read 25+ pages and log on Biblionasium:
    1. Title
    2. p. ____ to p. ____
    3. Big Thing that Happened (1-2 sentences: Who? What? When? Where?) + 1 question, prediction, inference, connection, visualization, or new word and how you guessed its meaning
  2. Finish all work on Classroom and StudySync and turn in!

  • Self-Discipline: What is it?
    • Which aspect of self-discipline could you develop more of?
  • Read the examples of a lack of self-discipline and having self-discipline.
    • What are some possible consequences of having or not having self-discipline?
  • Go to one of the links in the article to find out more about how to develop self-discipline in a certain area.
    • What tips did you learn?
    • Share out findings with the class.
