    3. Big Thing that Happened (1-2 sentences: Who? What? When? Where?) + 1 question, prediction, inference, connection, visualization, or new word and how you guessed its meaning
  2. Finish all work on Classroom and StudySync.

Learning Target: Students will be able to build arguments, including counterarguments and rebuttals, in preparation for a debate.

Watch debate clip from The Great Debaters.

  • In what ways did James Farmer appeal to emotion and logic? His opponent?
  • What were the strongest parts of each side’s arguments?

Review all arguments, reasons, evidence, counterarguments, and rebuttals on graphic organizer. Which pieces are the strongest? Where in the debate should they go (beginning, end)?
