Good Morning, Class!

Per. 1 (8:15-9:05) – Language Arts

Learning Target copy

Learning Target: Students will be able to perform an initial reading of a text and demonstrate comprehension by annotating new words, questions, and thoughts, and to practice and apply concrete strategies for identifying the central or main idea.

Guts (Access through StudySync)

  • Intro, vocab
  • Read and annotate
  • Skill: Central/Main Idea (open on Classroom)
  • ACE Think Questions (if time)

Per. 2 (9:08-9:56) – Independent Reading/Fluency

Please take out:

  • Reading Log
  • independent reading book

Homework share:

  • Take out your “Want to Read” list
  • 1 person from each table group will share last night’s reading log summary
  • If the book sounds interesting to you, write it down
  • Discuss: Which strategy did this person use?

STAR TESTING (Access through Addams –> Student Links)

Independent Reading/Fluency:

  • Write today’s date, title/author, and page number you are starting on.
  • Stay focused on your reading the entire time. If your eyes wander, bring them back to your book.
  • When we are finished, write the page number you stopped on and a 1-2 sentence BTH. Add one place that you used a thinking strategy (visualizing, questioning, context clues, inferring) to deepen your understanding of what was happening in the book.

 

Homework:

  1. Read 20+ pages and log:
    1. Title/author
    2. p. ____ to p. ____
    3. Big Thing that Happened (1-2 sentences: Who? What? When? Where?) + 1 strategy (visualizing, questioning, context clues, inferring)
