Wednesday 11/14/18 – Language Arts
Good Morning, Class!
Please come in quietly and take out:
- headphones / earbuds
- Hatchet book and white book from bin
- Chromebook
Per. 2 (8:15-9:29) – Language Arts
Learning Target: Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of informative/explanatory writing: thesis statements by writing a strong thesis statement.
Open EWP – Prewrite Organizer on Classroom
- Identify patterns (similarities, differences) between your three individuals (complete chart at bottom of doc)
Open Thesis Statement assignment on StudySync and note taking doc on Classroom.
- Define: View video (with headphones / earbuds) and read paragraph. Take notes on doc, do fill-in, and discuss Topic vs. Thesis chart.
- Model: Read Identification and Application and Model sections. (Don’t do Practice part.) Read prompt and examples on doc.
- Your Turn: Read and answer the two questions.
- Practice/Write: Follow the steps on the Write tab to write your Thesis Statement. Copy/paste it into the box on the doc as well.
- Peer Reviews: Complete two peer reviews following the directions on StudySync. (Ignore the part about Padlet on the doc.)
Homework:
- Read 20+ pages and log (on Biblionasium/Destiny):
- Title/author
- p. ____ to p. ____
- BTH (1-2 sentences: Who? What? When? Where?) + 1 visualization, thick question, use of context clues, or inference
- Finish Thesis Statement assignments (including peer reviews) and turn in on StudySync and Classroom.
