- Define: View video and read description. Discuss:
- What is another word for tone?
- What are some examples of different tones that a writer might convey in his or her work?
- Speaking the following sentence aloud— You’re late for dinner —what different tones might you convey with your voice?
- What role does the type or purpose of a text play in the tone a writer chooses?
- When might nonstandard language be helpful for creating a tone?
- Engage: Listen to the audio of this song. What is the tone?
- Now watch the first minute of the video. How does this affect the tone?
- Now look at the lyrics. Which words help you determine the tone?
- Model: Read and Annotate
- Your Turn: Read carefully and answer questions
- Write: Remember to find evidence from Sunrise Over Fallujah (in the white book)
