Welcome to the 2010-11 School Year blog for Team Princeton students in Miss Nichols’ classes at Jane Addams Middle School (JAMS). We are located in Lawndale, CA, a part of Los Angeles County. We are a California Distinguished School because we have such wonderful students, families, and staff!

I am Miss Nichols, the moderator of this site. This is my 11th year of teaching 6th grade at Jane Addams. I am currently teaching Honors Language Arts, GATE Enrichment, and three periods of Social Studies on the topic of ancient civilizations.

WHAT THIS BLOG IS FOR

This blog will have many purposes:

  • To serve as an extension of our classroom and a way to invite more communication between home and school.  Here you will find pictures and articles related to what we are doing in class, and you are invited to add your two cents by commenting.  For weekly lesson plans and homework assignments in case of absence or missed information, go to our school webpage here. You can also contact me by email directly from this blog (see the Contact Us page).

  • To provide and maintain a list of resources to enrich our learning, such as links to institutions and websites, blogs, or videos related to our topics of study.

  • As students become more familiar with how to use this blog, they will gain more controls and responsibilities. First, they will learn how to access class information. The next step will be adding their own thoughts via comments. Finally, students will become post authors themselves. This will allow us to use this blog as a vehicle for showcasing student work, much like a bulletin board in the classroom, only it will be open for students, parents, and friends at any time, and you can add comments to what you see here. What a great opportunity for the students to get personalized feedback!

  • Another goal of mine is to open our blog up to a wider audience for communication and collaboration with other student bloggers, authors, or experts on topics related to our curriculum.
