Thursday 3/26/20 – Language Arts

Good Morning, Class!miss your faceDistance Learning – Day 9

Note: Please read everything on this post carefully! You can email me with any questions. I am responding to emails from noon-3:00 on Mondays-Fridays.

Language Arts – Per. 1-2 (do in this order):

1. Academic Vocab

Learning Target copy

Learning Target: Students will be able to acquire and use academic words and phrases.

On StudySync, open Academic Vocab Lesson 8

2. Argumentative Essay – EWP assignments are to be done IN ORDER. Go back to previous blog posts, StudySync, and Classroom assignments for prior directions.

Learning Target copyLearning Target: Students will be able to edit and proofread text to finalize information, style, and organization, and to eliminate errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

For this next step, you need to have received two peer reviews on your EWP: Draft and EWP: Revise assignments in StudySync. If you have not, go back to previous lessons.

On StudySync, open EWP: Edit, Proofread, and Publish assignment. You will spend two days on this assignment.

  • Follow directions in assignment. Read each part (including studying links) carefully and fully finish each step before moving onto the next one. Take your time. Your essay should look different from your original draft by the time you have finished all three rounds of revisions and the improvements should be noticeable.
  • Turn in assignment when finished.
  • Give two peer reviews following the guidance in the assignment.

3. Late SS Assignments (will be graded in this order and disappear once graded):

  1. Gandhi the Man

  3. Bull Run
  4. Sunrise Over Fallujah
  5. Remembering Our Heroes
  6. Veterans Return to the Classroom
  7. Spotlight: Author’s Purpose and Point of View

4. Flipgrid – a new video tool

On Classroom, find the assignment under Distance Learning called Intro to Flipgrid. Click the link and sign in with Google. View my video in Flipgrid for more instructions. (We’re just testing this out for now.)

5. Reading (if caught up on everything else)

On StudySync, open Nimona assignment

  • Follow directions in assignment. You can do whichever parts you want.
  • Submit assignment when finished.

 

Moving to Per. 3! – Reading Log

No book? No problem! Go to Epic! or the Digital Collection and borrow an e-book. You can use it for your reading log! (Look for the page numbers at the bottom of the reading screen.)Bitmoji Image

Read 30+ pages in book of your choice and log on Biblionasium:

    1. Title/author
    2. p. ____ to p. ____ (actual page started on to page ended on)
    3. 3 Big Things that Happened (Answers the questions: Who? What? When/Where? How? Why?)
    4. 1 Thinking Strategy: prior knowledge, question, prediction, inference, connection, or word you figured out using syntax/etymology/context clues
